Today this morning I actually made Amaretto for one last Christmas gift. All before I left for work it’s that quick and easy! So you want a to make something in a hurry and make it a nice gift Amaretto is the thing to choose. Today was 60 degrees here in Baltimore and that’s just weird for december in Baltimore. It reminds me of when I little and I went to florida for Christmas it was warm and awkward for christmas. They spray the trees with fake snow. Look fool this isn’t snow it’s some toxic crap you are making me breathe into my child lungs. We had a tree sprayed pink being a 9-year-old child at the time and considering I’m a girl I didn’t care much I thought it was cool, but now I kinda mind… I’m just saying it’s weird.
First you start off making a simple syrup with white and brown sugar let that cool for 30 minutes before you add that to your vodka.
After your simple syrup cools off add it to you vodka and add in your pure almond extract… On a side note you can tell if any of your co workers are drunks if you ever see them chugging the extract in the back of the kitchen hiding in the corner or walk-in you feel like you should go to an AA meeting after seeing someone do that. There is nothing wrong with drinking in the shower but there defiantly is if you drink an extract. Maybe you shouldnt give that person this as gift try some cookies or something.
I strain it through two coffee filters when everything is added to make it more “clear”….
Now I bottle it and enjoy it! here is a short potential list for uses of amaretto
- add it to coffee or hot chocolate
- mix it in cola
- serve it on the rocks with a squeeze of lemon
- soak ladyfingers in it for Tiramisu if your into that
- drink it straight from the bottle
- make a hot toddy with it and add whipped cream
- stir into whipped cream!
- gifts for the holidays
AMARETTO
Makes 3 cups
Adapted from Martha Stewart
1 Cup Water
1 Cup Sugar
1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
2 Cups Good Quality Vodka
3 or 4 Tbs Almond Extract
2 Tbs Vanilla Extract (optional) I did not use Vanilla extract…
Combine water and sugars in a saucepan over medium heat. Heat until the mixture is boiling, and all of the sugar is dissolved. Remove the pan from the heat and let the mixture cool for 30 minutes. Stir vodka, almond extract and vanilla extract into the mixture. Strain through a coffee filter for a clearer Amaretto and store in a sealed bottle. The Amaretto should last for a long while.
(You can drink the Amaretto immediately, but you’ll find it gets better with age)
